A lockpicking game with feelings

Dreaming Doors is the second project I worked on during my year in Digital Bros Game Academy. The brief that has been given was “You have to make a simulation game about lockpicking doors… but with a twist”. 


After some brief conversation we decided that DD should have been more fancy, more dreamy. So it became a simulation game in which you have to lockpick the doors’ dreams. Creating a world that seemed to be dreamy enough has been a real challenge, and it took a lot of time of in-engine work in collaboration with the 3D artist.


We had less than a month to create what became a funny puzzle game in which you have to use a Doodle God  way of thinking to open several doors.


We also encountered  the problem of introducing this way of reasoning to the player. In order to do so, I had so much fun creating the companion of this game The Dream Toolbag, a funny (and chatty) bag that drives the player all along the trip, becoming its best friend.
